The Saint: The Hi-Jackers (3.11, ITC, 1964)
"Tell me, you've had an interesting career, haven't you?"
"Yes, but why the past tense?"
"A slip of the tongue."
#the saint#the hijackers#1964#itc#leslie charteris#paul erickson#david eady#roger moore#ingrid schoeller#robert nichols#neil mccallum#walter gotell#kevin scott#michael collins#richard shaw#shane rimmer#roy stephens#david healy#george herbert#a lesser effort perhaps‚ but free from any of the more objectionable elements that can be found in even the best Saint eps#simon is in Munich (and Moore may actually have popped there at some point; there's one very convincing establishing shot before the titles#which‚ if it's CSO‚ is among the best I've ever seen). he bumps into an old friend working on a US army base‚ which raises a few questions;#why was Simon even in Munich in the first place (the meeting is accidental) and just how does he get to make these friends? like Steed's#many old friends in The Avengers‚ the pal here is only really present to fulfil a narrative purpose. then it's picking up another (new) pal#and solving the case. Gotell is very underused as the boss bad guy‚ but Neil McCallum gets some lovely character stuff to do as a slimy#stooge. Schoeller would become something of a minor movie star on the European big screen‚ mainly in adventure spoofs and spy stuff and#she's very good here as a rare Saint girl who doesn't seem to fall for Simon's charms at all. this was Eady's only directing credit on the#series and actually a very rare case of him working for television; he worked mostly on quota quicky b movies and short films (he'd already#been Oscar nominated at this point for a short film). Erickson's script is a relatively faithful adaptation of a Charteris short story with#the rather wonderful title The Unlicensed Victuallers (tho i get why they changed it for tv)

Surfer Dude Names
I was looking to name a sim inspired by the archetypal beach-goer with wavy sunbleached hair who looks like they say “dude” every 5 seconds, you know the type... anyways I wasn’t really finding what I wanted, so I ended up making this list by taking names that stuck out to me from movies about surfing, and the Beach Party movie genre because apparently that was a thing... there’s also a bunch of real-life professional surfer names, soooo yeah

Is there anyone in the medical field that you guys look up to? Or mentors that you guys have been under? - Miss M
Thomas: Logan and I have read this New York Times article by Dr. Lisa Sanders. She finds strange undiagnosed medical cases and asks the world for information. It’s a really creative way to share those cases.
Joan: I’d say Marci Bowers was an influence in med school. They called her the rock star of gender confirmation surgery.
Patton: My dad! He was a dentist!
Roman: I may not be a medical professional, but I’ve had a few mentors in my life. My j- friend Shane helped me find acting when I was a kid.
Emile: Erik Erickson and the work he did with developmental stages tends to work well when I’m searching for a cartoon I can use to relate with my patients.
Nate: When I was on the force, my old sergeant was the best cop I knew.
Remy: Whoever invented Starbies is my hero.
Talyn: Uhh... I was not prepared for this, uh, I guess the other physical therapists I’ve worked with? Most of them have been good people.
Dr. D: Pass.
Remus: Oh, that one’s easy. Roman!
Dot: It’s a little embarrassing, but... I’d have to say Dr. Picani. He’s helped Larry and I so much.
Terrence: My family. I don’t know where I’d be without them.

BAE Brings Ancient Sounds and Future Beats to Brooklyn’s Turk’s Inn
Tumblr media
The conclusion of BAE’s Ancient Sounds x Future Beats in the Sultan Room at Turk’s Inn, 1/11/20.
Old met new and east met west in Bushwick, Brooklyn last month as the women-driven music collective BAE threw Ancient Sounds x Future Beats, a unique concert for the launch of their music label in the Sultan Room at new venue Turk’s Inn. Billed as “a mystical night of global music, arabic percussion and tribal fusion bellydance,” the show featured multi-instrumentalist Spy From Cairo backed by members of the Brooklyn Gypsies along with Tasha Blank of the The Get Down party fame leading an all-female DJ roster and a ensemble of dancers from Sister of the Blooming Sun.
Tumblr media
(from left) Turk’s Inn co-owner Varun Kataria with BAE founder Reem Abdou, DJ Sweaty By Nature and dancer Lysistrata Wong during the show’s pre-party on the roof.
Guests got a taste of the evening on during a pre-party on Turk’s Inn’s roof featuring tarot reader Nicole Roche, henna tattoo artist Natalia Zamparini and warm-up DJ Sweaty By Nature. There we spoke the venue co-owner Varun Kataria, who along with friend and partner Tyler Erickson imported the Arabian interior of a vintage Wisconsin supper club and opened it’s new incarnation last summer. Wearing a sharp, colorful jacket, Kataria mingled with the performers and told me about the diverse acts his club hosts. “One of the great blues slingers James "Blood” Ulmer is finishing up right now for the Winter Jazz Fest before this show begins around 11 o’ clock,“ he told us. "We’ve even had Alicia Keys here, it’s awesome.”

The Sultan Room filled with BAE’s fans who are culled not only from the collective’s dance parties but also from the yoga and wellness events that the various DJ’s and dancers host. After an opening DJ set by Brazil’s FlavYa, BAE’s founder Reem Abdou aka DJ Dreeemy quieted the audience and introduced them to the show. While leading them in some deep breaths, she told them “we welcome you on during this full moon and hope you feel comfortable and have respect for this place we’ve come together. This party also marks the launch of Sonic Alchemy, it’s our new music label, so tonight we invite you to feel the rhythm and dance your resolutions as we start a new year.”

Reem handed the stage over Spy From Cairo whose 20 year career has been influenced by Arabian, Indian and Balkan cultures that he combines with modern electronica. As he played an amplified Oud along with a clarinetist and percussionist from the Brooklyn Gypsies, dancers from Sister of the Blooming Sun performed a choreographed opening ceremony before dispersing amongst the crowd with their lighted orbs, Arabian swords and candles. As the live music gave way to the DJ’s, they performed an improvised ritual for dancer Lysistrata Wong’s birthday. “We totally came up with it tonight,” Wong told me. “The sacrificed me with our swords before I was ‘reborn’ while they burned candles and sage. It was so cool to do that a for an audience.”

BAE has more events lined up this year like their recent Sonic Alchemy DJ and audio production workshop last month in Williamsburg. The event had BAE teaming up with local Half Moon Radio and Brazil’s Escoteca. Each of these collectives promote personal wellness the classes included “movement and meditation for artist self-care and harnessing expansive creative potential and expression.” Next week, BAE is headed to Costa Rica to join the Envision Festival featuring dancing, yoga, curated jungle experiences and plenty of hot nights on the beach, tickets can be found here.
